Cole Elementary School Parade

It was so heart warming to see everyone's faces at the school parade. We miss our Cole Cougars dearly!

There are a few pictures posted on the school website from the event that took place today.

Go Cougars!

Cole cougars, we miss you!

Here are a few words and pictures from Mrs. Jorden, our librarian. She wanted to share some wonderful news about "The Cole 6". Enjoy!

On the morning of March 13th (a day off for students), I, Mrs. Jorden,  entered the library to the sound of additional chirping.  To my delight, several more chicks had hatched overnight.  I brought home what I like to call "The Cole 6."

They are well and happy in my basement coop, but the chick in the center seems to be saying, 'Hey kids, when are you coming back to see us?'  As you can see, they are growing true feathers having lost that baby down that was so soft when they were first born. They are also flying up to the perch that you can see in the first picture.

Once they get more feathers and the weather turns warmer, I can put them in the outside coop. They are still considered babies, but by September they will be laying eggs.  For now, they are hoping to visit Cole to say hello to everyone as soon as school reopens.

Happy Spring Break

Summer Reading Loss - Don't let it happen to your child!

Summer reading loss refers to the decline in children's reading development that can occur during summer vacation times when children are away from the classroom and not participating in formal literacy programs.  The reality of summer reading loss is well documented. In order to support reading development over the summer months, Cole Elementary encourages families to check out our online resources: Tumble Book Library, BookFlix, and Storyline Online.  Also, Cole teachers encourage families to make use of our excellent county library on Pioneer Avenue and all the summer events planned for kids at the library.

BookFlix contains thematically paired and interactive fiction and nonfiction titles. Animated classic storybooks introduce early learners to the delights of reading.  The robust and varied selection of titles provides something for everyone, leading to a positive and rewarding experience for all.

Storyline Online streams videos featuring celebrated actors reading children's books alongside interactive illustrations.  Storyline Online is available 24 hours a day. Each book includes supplemental curriculum developed by elementary educators, aiming to strengthen comprehension and verbal and written skills.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

By now your child’s teacher will have contacted you, or attempted to contact you, about distance learning. Cole staff is preparing to teach remotely for at least the next two weeks of school beginning April 6. If you have not talked to your child’s teacher, please call the school Monday through Thursday between the hours of 8am and noon at 771-2480 beginning April 6. Carole and I will be in the building between those hours and we will help you with getting your child started on distance learning.

Cole is also serving lunches in our bus pick-up area at the back of our building. The times for lunch are Monday through Friday 11:30 – 12:30 (During Spring Break, we will be serving lunches Monday, Wednesday, and Friday).

This is a difficult and uncertain time for everyone. We are a family at Cole. That means we do our best to take care of each other. If there is anything we can do to help you, please call and let us know. Until things get back to normal, and we are able to get together again, know that our staff will be doing our best to help your child continue learning. In the meantime, call us if there is anything we can do, and take care of yourselves and your families.

Kris Klopfenstein

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to Cole Elementary School!

I am very excited and very humbled to be at Cole Elementary School full time.  Everyone has been very kind and welcoming.  I was told by many people, when I started here, that the entire Cole community is a family.  I’ve already seen lots of examples of it.  That’s one of the things I love most about our school.  It’s also what we hope to build on, moving forward.

Since being here full-time, I’ve been able to meet with all of our school’s teams.  The teams have been working hard to help improve the school experience for all of our students.  In the coming weeks, we are going to open a school store.  By exhibiting good behavior, students will be able to earn “Cougar Cash” which will be recorded by the school’s new app.  They can use their cash to buy items at the school store.  We are working on some new recess procedures that are intended to make recesses safer and more enjoyable for everyone.  These are just a few examples the strategies our teams are working on.

Cole Elementary is a great school.  We are blessed to have some of the hardest working and most dedicated staff members in the district.  Every member of our staff works hard every day to ensure our students are learning and that our families feel welcome.  All of us working together is what makes us the Cole family.  Thank you all, as always, for your help and support.
